Cosmic Love//Florence + the Machine
I know I just posted this song a few days ago, but this video is so beautiful and inspiring.
I literally can’t sleep because I’m searching videos and coming up with ideas.
This portfolio may make me even more broke than I already am, but fuck. I feel like I have to do this. I really have never felt so connected to a portfolio idea.
I really want to do a portfolio inspired by music videos, with the wardrobes similar to those in the video, and the posing reflecting the emotions of the song.
I’ve had this idea for quite awhile now, but I didn’t think I’d actually do it.
I’m terrified to take this on, but I’ve had this idea for well over a year now. Now feels like the right time to finally do it.
Ugh, I’m really terrified that I’ll fail, but I can’t not try.
I’ve actually got a shoot set up for next Thursday for a shoot inspired by Taylor Swift’sSafe and Sound. This is the video that really put my mind in gear and made me want to move forward with this.
I think I also want to do Gotye’sSomebody That I Used To Know. For that, I need to find a body painter, and a male and female, and a studio. I actually think I know who I want for the male and female models, and I may know someone who can do the body painting, so I mostly have to find a studio (or atleast a place to set up my crap studio) in SoFla.
Edit: Also, one inspired by the video for Landon Pigg’s Falling In Love At A Coffee Shop. I pretty much swooned the first time I ever saw it (I can’t think of a better word to describe my reaction to the video). Currently rewatching it and slowly coming up with ideas…
I’m also playing with the idea of using the same male and female models throughout the series.
I haven’t felt so strongly connected to an idea in a long while.
I think I’ll be spending the majority of my spring break researching music videos and brainstorming ideas.
I’m also entertaining the idea of doing one to Tegan and Sara’s On Directing. Gah, this idea… I really am so excited by it, this is insane and so weird to me.
Anyone have any recommendations for songs/music videos to check out? They’re highlyyy appreciated!
Te burnin completely changes te color and often bleachs that section.
9 prints were made to get one that I was content with.
Tje same, unburned negative needed only 3 prints for mw to be happy.
Ugh, why’d I choose to do this portfolio?
Like, 99% positive, atleast.
Idr how many rolls of Portra I went up with, nor do I remember how many times I switched out the rolls.
But, from what I did have developed, I’m missing quite a bit, and not even 10 exposures were made on my current roll. I’m almost positive I shot more than that.
Gah, I don’t like this. I was really excited for that roll.

Kodak has announced that, as part of its “ongoing strategic review,” it will stop producing digital cameras, pocket video cameras and digital picture frames, but will continue to invest in its film division.
Less than a month after announcing that it would seek bankruptcy protection in the US, Kodak has announced that it will stop the production of digital cameras and picture frames, as well as pocket-size video cameras.
“For some time, Kodak’s strategy has been to improve margins in the capture device business by narrowing our participation in terms of product portfolio, geographies and retail outlets. Today’s announcement is the logical extension of that process, given our analysis of the industry trends,” says Pradeep Jotwani, Kodak’s chief marketing officer.
However, the firm has moved to reassure film photographers. “Kodak’s continuing consumer products and services will include the traditional film capture and photographic paper business, which continues to provide high-quality and innovative products and solutions to consumers, photographers, retailers, photofinishers and professional labs,” it says in a statement.
The news comes as Kodak is undergoing a wide-ranging strategic review of its businesses with the “commitment to drive sustainable profitability through its most valuable business lines.” But Kodak is quick to point out that the move won’t mean the end for Kodak-branded digital cameras. Instead, the firm plans to license its brand to third-party manufacturer - a move that mirrors Polaroid’s action in the years leading to and following its own bankruptcy.
Kodak says that it has contacted its retail partners, and is working closely with them to ensure an orderly transition. “Kodak will continue to honor all related product warranties, and provide technical support and service for its cameras, pocket video cameras and digital picture frames.”
Kodak also plans to focus its resources on retail-based photo kiosks and digital dry lab systems, consumer inkjet printers and the Kodak Gallery.
Two weeks ago, BJP’s technical writer Jonathan Eastland argued that Kodak needed to refocus its business around its film division. “What make them think that digital printing will push their share price up? For Kodak to make digital printers their core business is laughable,” he said. “Each time Kodak has discontinued a film, they used the excuse that it represented less than a certain percentage of their turnover, but it’s still a percentage of a very large niche market. There are still millions of photographers around the world that are using film, and not hundreds as Kodak seems to suggest. Kodak’s got to go back and crunch their numbers about the film market. All people want are these little yellow boxes of film, and that should be their core business, even it means reducing the company’s size further.”
This makes me really happy. My teacher earlier mentioned how another teacher believes that film will no long be manufactured in the next 5-10 years. While it probably is true, it’s still upsetting to hear. I love film. The idea of it no longer existing is terrible. It is a bit outdated, but it’s still a wonderful and beautiful thing. I’m glad Kodak is sticking to making what they make best: film.
It took me four hours to set up two separate shots and shoot 7 sheets of 4x5.
Shooting product, specifically glass, is so stressful! Especially when you have the fabulous idea to shoot the pieces on top of a mirror.
Ugh, I’ll find out if it was all worth it tomorrow.
Medium-format resolution? &much more?
I’m quite nearly drooling.
Yespls!
An underwater housing for my camera.
Currently searching and comparing reviews.
Or add one. I’m not quite sure yet.
Pretty much, because of me not having access to the darkroom, I won’t have anything to show this week. I don’t really feel like being scolded /embarrassed in front of the class for it.
I’d really love to do a look book, but I feel like I’d fail terribly.
But I am thinking about doing a fashion portfolio, starting with photos from this past Saturday. I’m thinking 18+ photos with an even number of guys and girls. Each models would have 3-5 looks each, all outdoors with lights. I’ve got three girls I can use, and one guy. I need to find another guy, preferably two.
Idk, I feel like my teacher won’t like this, either. Last week, one of the few people who had stuff in hand had polaroids of a studio-based fashion portfolio. He wasn’t too happy with them either. I’m not quite sure what he’d say to mine. And, after last week, I’m kinda nervous to hear what he says this week.
Gah.
